A Matter of Life and Death: Molly Carlile

Molly CarlileMolly Carlile AM is known as the Deathtalker ®. A multi-award winning palliative care activist, author and international speaker, Molly was one of the first people I met when I began compiling this book. Speaking at the launch of Dying to Know Day* in Sydney in 2013 , Molly was eloquent, funny and passionate about having conversations about death none of us wanted to have. Asking us questions such as ‘What are your death wishes? Where do you want to die? etc’, Molly certainly knew what she wanted.

As the Deathtalker®, Molly undoubtedly walks the talk. Her motto is ‘the more we talk, the less we fear’. She is an Ambassador for both Dying to Know Day* and Death Over Dinner. ** Her latest book is a comprehensive guide for the general public about everything to do with death and grief and is due for international release by New Holland publishers later in 2016.

In 2015, Molly appeared on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. Worth checking out, Molly holds her own brilliantly!

*Dying To Know Day is an annual day of action dedicated to bringing to life conversations and community actions around death, dying and bereavement. http://www.dyingtoknowday.org

** Death Over Dinner encourages people to host a dinner and conduct conversations about ‘all things death related’ over a meal. It is a new initiative, launched in May 2016, by the Australian Centre for Health Research, replicating the American model established by Michael Hebb.

Looking forward to reading this book. Particularly after watching Molly. When asked, by my mother, what he’d like for Christmas, my brother replied your funeral service. So when our mother died at 98 last November it made it so easy to organise her service. She stipulated everything to the last detail. Well done Mum!
