To coincide with the publication of ‘A Matter of Life and Death’, I was involved in a Q & A blogging session with Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
I was asked a number of questions including What was my motivation behind the book? How did I choose the 60 different contributors? What did I get out the book?
I enjoyed writing the blog as it allowed me to expand on some of the themes in the introduction and to reflect on how I understand death now, a few months after completing the book (December 2015).
All the contributions are strikingly different yet there are some common threads such as the importance of accepting death, preparing for death and embracing life to the full. My ponderings have led me to understand more about the paradox about death: that dealing with death is in fact a guide for living a meaningful life.
You can’t ask someone about the meaning of death without asking about life.
That is the nub of the book really and I love the way that many contributors express this in their own nuanced and subtle style.
